What is Microneedling?
Microneedling is a skin rejuvenation treatment approved by the Food and Drug Administration to reduce lines, wrinkles, acne scars, enlarged pores, and skin blemishes. The treatment triggers the formation of new skin tissue to replace old, damaged skin tissue showing the effects of sun damage or the aging process. The minimally invasive nature of this treatment leads to significant results without requiring any downtime. The treatment is also known for a low risk of complications, unlike some forms of cosmetic surgery.
A microneedling session is able to treat a wide range of skin conditions including fine lines and wrinkles, enlarged pores, hyperpigmentation, blemishes, rough skin texture, stretch marks, and scars formed by acne, injury, or surgery. Since we are working with the innate restorative powers of your body, microneedling treatments offer results that are very natural-looking. In the weeks and months after your treatment, your body will replace old skin tissue with newer, more youthful skin that displays fewer imperfections like the signs of aging, sun damage, or scars.
How Microneedling Works
Microneedling works by stimulating your body’s production of collagen and elastin fibers. We do this by creating numerous microscopic openings in the surface layers of skin. While these tiny channels are virtually invisible to the naked eye, they trigger a healing cascade that results in your body laying down new collagen and elastin to promote enhanced skin thickness and elasticity.
The procedure begins when we pass a special device over your skin to create hundreds of microscopic channels. Patients are typically able to resume their daily activities or work schedule right after their treatment session. Avoid manipulating your skin as much as possible in the hours after your treatment.
Microneedling is unlike any other skin rejuvenation procedure. Since we are coaxing your body into remodeling your skin, it will take some time to notice results. It is not unusual to notice some initial results within four to seven days after your needling session. Most patients begin to really notice results within a month after their treatment.
If you like, you can undergo multiple microneedling sessions. Each individual session will build upon the results of previous ones. You just simply need to wait a few weeks between each treatment so that your skin has time to adequately remodel.
